Pastel Polka Dot Cake

This is a cake that I did for a birthday party with polka dots baked into the cake!  It was really cool to slice it and have the polka dots showing :)

Cute and Delicious!  How can you go wrong with that combo!

Mermaid Pool Party!

These yummy treats were actually for my own daughter's 6th birthday.  I had planned on making the cupcakes look like the beach with little umbrellas (you can sort of see the chocolate shells I made in the cake pop stands)....however, the morning of the party, she asks if she can have mermaids on the cupcakes.  *sigh*

Oh well, I am used to improvising by now!

I didn't have enough time to sculpt entire mermaids (and not enough fondant made either).  So, I made these mermaid tails and dusted them with edible glitter, they turned out cute.  I couldn't resist putting one shark in there though.  She loved them, so that is all that really matters!

6th Birthday Pink Ombre Cake

I'm just getting around to posting this cake that I made for my daughter's 6th birthday.  It is the first time I have tried to do anything in the very popular ombre technique.  I made the shabby chic garland in the background too!  The decorations came together with the cake really well!  I always worry that they won't, because I am usually gathering things months in advance, but somehow it always works out fine!

St. Louis Cardinals Cupcakes and Cake Pops

These were for a wedding shower for some enthusiastic St. Louis Cardinals fans, a co-ed shower, so the whole theme worked out great for all!

Teacups and Ribbon Smash Cake

I was fortunate enough to be invited to this birthday party, so I got to eat one of these teacup cupcakes.  Might I just say that they were delicious!  White wedding cake, raspberry filling and vanilla pastry cream filling with buttercream frosting *sigh*.

It was not only the birthday girl's first birthday, but the first time she had eaten any cake!  I am not sure how she can be a relative of mine and this be a possibility.  The poor baby girl was not too happy about getting this strange frosting stuff all over her.  I am hoping that in later years she will come to appreciate my baking ;)

Aqua and Green Apple Cupcakes

I did these cupcakes recently for a baby shower that was aqua and green apple colors to match the new baby's nursery.  They wanted something simple and they turned out really cute!

One note though, they weren't completely thrilled about the idea of fondant.  They said, "Fondant always tastes bad."  Well, I am here to tell you it doesn't always have to!!  Some store-bought fondant does have a bitter taste.  Bakeries use the pre-made kind to save time, it is VERY time consuming to make it from scratch.  BUT, it tastes wonderful when you do!  I always try to use my own fondant when I need to use it for decorations and accents.  (They loved the fondant after they tried it by the way!)

London Olympics

With the 2012 Olympics coming up, my niece decided to do her daughter's first birthday with an Olympics theme.  I didn't do the table here, just the cupcakes and cake.  She and her sister did the rest and when it all came together, it was very cute!

These two pics aren't great (I took them with my phone), but I may add more pics later when I ever get around to getting the good ones off of my camera (so what I am saying here is don't hold your breath!).

I know, I know....if you have ever asked me to make a cake, and I said "I don't make cakes", I am sorry!  I should say that I don't like to make big cakes and try to avoid it at all costs!!  I make exceptions now and then, and that is good for me, because it reminds me of the reasons why I should always tell people that "I don't make cakes". ☺

Circus Popcorn Cupcakes

I can't believe how long it has been since my last post!  I admit it, I am a terrible blogger!  Hopefully that is the first step to becoming a better blogger...but I doubt it!

I had to share these really cute custom cupcakes that I made.  They were for a 2 year old's birthday party that was circus themed.  I surprised myself with how realistic they turned out, they really looked like they had popcorn on top, but, shhhhh......it is mini marshmallows!

Hours and hours of cutting marshmallows with kitchen shears into the shape of popcorn and hand painting them with yellow food coloring and tah dah!!  I also designed the stripped popcorn "boxes" too.  It was a time consuming project, but they really turned out great!!

Irish Pub Cupcakes!

Chocolate Guinness Cake
Irish Cream - Chocolate Genache Filling
Irish Cream Buttercream Frosting
Dusted with Cocoa Powder
Marble Almond Bark on top!

I have had people who love it, a few who say it is their favorite
Jean Marie's Cakery cupcake, and a few who don't like it at all.
I'll admit, it is not my favorite (but I don't like the taste of beer).
The frosting by itself is TO DIE FOR, I could eat a bowl of it by itself!
The cake has a slight bread texture because of the Guinness beer.
Some love that and some don't, but you probably know who you are!
Try one and see what you think.

Super Bowl Snack Table

I had been working on a template for these little handmade paper sacks for another project.

Then Super Bowl came along and I thought they would be the perfect combination of decoration for the table and function for snacks.  I also put pretzels in some, but didn't include them in the photo.  They are a little time consuming to make, but would be so cute for any snack buffet, for kids' birthdays or even to bring out at weddings for those who stay and dance all evening long.  They are about 4" tall and completely customizable.

I also made some chocolate chocolate cake pops in the shape of footballs and cupcakes with chocolate buttercream footballs on top.

Football is not my thing (at all), but if there are snacks and desserts involved, I am THERE!

Tower of Cake Pops

A tower of Jean Marie's Cake Pops is a really unique and fun way to display the goodies for your party, wedding, or event!  These were done for a retro birthday party, so the pink and green colors are a little wild....but they looked so amazing on their tower!

A Cake Pop Tower can be customized with a ribbon color that matches your event.  The tower holds three dozen cake pops.  We have a package that includes the four different flavors/designs of cake pops, tower, delivery, and set up.
Our website is STILL under construction, but it is coming soon.
When it is done, you'll be able to find these on the Events page.
For now, you can email me at caketruffles@live.com

Elegant Flat Top Cake Pops are great for Weddings!

I did these wedding cake favors a while back, but haven't gotten around to getting them on the blog until now.  Flat Top Cake Pops look great on platters on the cake table at a wedding or can be used as part of the center pieces on individual tables for your guests to enjoy.  We fully custom design the diamond tags and can use ribbon and drizzle colors to match your decor as well.  Delivery charges apply in the Springfield, Missouri area, or they can be picked up in Strafford.  Check the Events page of our website or Contact Us for more information.

14th Birthday Cake Pops!

Cake pops that look like cupcakes!!  These are so great for a special birthday party.  The bottom "cake" is made of rice cereal/marshmallow treats, covered with buttercream frosting, covered with homemade fondant.  DELICIOUS!

Cake Pops in the cupcake shape are 1/2 again as big as our normal size cake pop or cake truffle.  There are 24 cake pops on this "cake".

Pink Champagne Cake Truffles for Valentine's Day!

Well, after several attempts at testing recipes and tweaking, I've got the Pink Champagne flavor figured out!

We will offer these for Valentine's Day as a specialty flavor that you can choose from.

You can order Pink Champagne the rest of the year as well for a custom order, as long as you order at least three dozen of them.  It would be a really great flavor for weddings!

Happy 40th Birthday!

The custom cake truffles that I made for a 40th Birthday surprise party a few weeks ago turned out great!  They were a hit at the party and really looked great on display. There were three different flavors for the birthday girl: Birthday Cake, Ambrosia, and Oreo.

My original idea was that it would be cute if the "chocolate" ones looked black, but I had to add so much black color to the chocolate to make them look black, that the taste was not good.  You know how bitter it tastes when you have really bright black or red frosting on a decorated cake?  Well same thing.  I am not willing to sacrifice taste for looks!  They still looked great though!
I

If anyone is interested in ordering custom truffles similar to this, the cost would work out like this....

8 dozen @ $24 per dozen, for custom colors is $192.

To add birthday candles is $1 per candle if I buy them or $.50 per candle if you supply them to me....so in this case, $40 for 40 candles.
So, the grand total would be $232 for 8 dozen Custom Cake Truffles.

Another question that I get a lot is...How many should I order?  This is hard for me to say, I think you know your crowd better.  Are they dessert eaters?  It is hard to stop at one, especially when you want to try different flavors.  But, there are some people out there with good self control (this is not me!).  They are a very rich and decadent desert and two per person is the maximum that you need to order, in my opinion.

For this party, there were 60 people, I figured 1.5 cake truffles per person because there was lots of food.  There were some left over, but that way the birthday girl got to take some home....Yea!

13th Birthday Cake

So, since I posted Paige's cake, I thought, to be fair, I should post Jessica's too.  This is the cake I made for her birthday this year.  We redid her room and she moved on from the pink and purple flowers look to a more grown-up blue, brown, and tan.  Her cake matches her room!

Paige's Scooby Doo Cake

Paige just had her 4th Birthday, time really does fly!  I had an entirely different cake planned for her birthday.  Then, just a few weeks before her BD, she informs me that she wants a Scooby Doo birthday.....so, here is how it turned out!  I like it OK, not my best work, but she loved it, i guess that is all that matters!
