Happy 40th Birthday!

The custom cake truffles that I made for a 40th Birthday surprise party a few weeks ago turned out great!  They were a hit at the party and really looked great on display. There were three different flavors for the birthday girl: Birthday Cake, Ambrosia, and Oreo.

My original idea was that it would be cute if the "chocolate" ones looked black, but I had to add so much black color to the chocolate to make them look black, that the taste was not good.  You know how bitter it tastes when you have really bright black or red frosting on a decorated cake?  Well same thing.  I am not willing to sacrifice taste for looks!  They still looked great though!
I

If anyone is interested in ordering custom truffles similar to this, the cost would work out like this....

8 dozen @ $24 per dozen, for custom colors is $192.

To add birthday candles is $1 per candle if I buy them or $.50 per candle if you supply them to me....so in this case, $40 for 40 candles.
So, the grand total would be $232 for 8 dozen Custom Cake Truffles.

Another question that I get a lot is...How many should I order?  This is hard for me to say, I think you know your crowd better.  Are they dessert eaters?  It is hard to stop at one, especially when you want to try different flavors.  But, there are some people out there with good self control (this is not me!).  They are a very rich and decadent desert and two per person is the maximum that you need to order, in my opinion.

For this party, there were 60 people, I figured 1.5 cake truffles per person because there was lots of food.  There were some left over, but that way the birthday girl got to take some home....Yea!

Amaretto Cake Truffles

Amaretto is one of my newest flavors.  So new, that these aren't on my menu cards.  I guess I am going to have to redesign my cards soon!

Amaretto Cake Truffles are made with a rich amaretto cake with an amaretto liqueur buttercream frosting that enhances their sweet, creamy, almond flavor.

If you get a chance, try one (or two) they are really delicious!

Amborsia Cake Truffles

Ambrosia is one of my newer flavors...so, those of you who have tasted or ordered my Cake Truffles in the past probably have not tried this one.

I have to say, it is one of the best!  I am a coconut fan, so if you are too, you will love these.  They are made from a moist coconut cake with a glaze added in that has got orange, crushed pineapple, and bit of coconut rum.  SO GOOD!

Baby Shower Party Favors

I did these really cute boxes for an "It's a Boy!" baby shower recently....congratulations to the proud parents!  The cake truffles looked so great nestled in their little boxes!  The double stripes in two different blue colors really popped.  There are so many different types of individual boxes available, it is hard for me not to order them all in.  These were just plain white ones with a custom label on the front with a matching bow.  They are great for weddings too!

Working on my WEBSITE!

I haven't been posting much lately, because I am spending all of my spare time making Cake Truffles and designing my website.  NO time for POSTING!

You may have noticed that the blog colors have changed, that is because I am trying to get the blog to match the website more.  I have made really good headway with the website, but there is still a lot to go.  Here is a pic of what the design looks like (so far)!

MENU CARD flavors

I have printed some business cards with my "menu" on the back.  This way, when you have an assortment tin, you can tell which flavors are inside.  Good idea, right?!?!

You know when you get a box of chocolates and you have to bite into it to see what is inside??  I hate that!  I want to know what is in there so I can pick which one I want.  So, that is what I have done with my cake truffles and cake pops.  Unless you order custom colors, or perhaps special decorations for a holiday, my flavors are always decorated the same way depending on what flavor it is inside.

Here is what it looks like....

Snickerdoodle Cake Truffles

I know I keep saying this, but these Snickerdoodle Cake Truffles are one of my BEST flavors.  They really are a favorite of most everyone who tries them....especially the kids!  Even the adults have a hard time eating just one of these!  They have a really great cinnamon and vanilla flavor.

Lemon Poppyseed Cake Truffles

I had to try several versions of this one to get it the way I wanted.  They are one of my favorites.  Real lemon and lemon zest makes them tangy and delicious!

Mocha Cake Truffles!

These Mocha Cake Truffles are a little buttery, and a little chocolaty, with a bit of coffee mixed in, they are REALLY GOOD!

Back Porch Tea House

There is a great little shop in Willard called The Back Porch Tea House.  It has a store in the front with flowers, antiques and gifts.  In the back, you can eat lunch most days and they just started having dinner on the weekends.  They have started carrying my Cake Truffles!  So, if you are in Willard, stop by for something to eat and try a new flavor of Jean Marie's Cake Truffles!

Here is their website:  http://www.villageflowersandmercantile.com

If you are looking for a gift for someone, I will have Halloween and Fall assortments available from me anytime, and you will be able to go into the Tea House and get them too!  I will post a pic of my Halloween boxes soon....they are so cute!

Here are my individually wrapped CAKE POPS

I had someone ask to see what my cake pops look like when they are individually wrapped, so here is a photo of one.  This is a yummy Oreo Cookie Cake Pop.  My Oreo Cookie Cake Truffles are equally as good, just not on a stick!!

The flavors in this picture are Pumpkin, Chocolate Brownie Mint, Oreo Cookie, and Mocha....

Sprinkle Delivery....

My newest sprinkle colors came in, finally!  Here's a picture, aren't they pretty?  :)

I'm gonna make A LOT of CAKE POPS!

I get sooooo excited when the UPS or the Fed EX guy pulls up!  That means I am getting something fun!  It is like Christmas!  Even sucker sticks get me excited, can you believe it?  I got these yesterday, and they are three different lengths, which is exciting too!  (I know, I am a dork).

I usually only have two different lengths of sticks, but I need a middle length for a wedding order of Cake Pops that I am doing in a few weeks.

I am very anxiously waiting for the UPS guy today, Terry.  Terry, where are you?  I am SUPPOSED to be getting a shipment of some new sprinkles (or jimmies, that name sounds weird to me, so I say sprinkles).  Now, new sprinkles.....THAT is exciting, right?

I'll post a picture, if they ever get here!

13th Birthday Cake

So, since I posted Paige's cake, I thought, to be fair, I should post Jessica's too.  This is the cake I made for her birthday this year.  We redid her room and she moved on from the pink and purple flowers look to a more grown-up blue, brown, and tan.  Her cake matches her room!

Paige's Scooby Doo Cake

Paige just had her 4th Birthday, time really does fly!  I had an entirely different cake planned for her birthday.  Then, just a few weeks before her BD, she informs me that she wants a Scooby Doo birthday.....so, here is how it turned out!  I like it OK, not my best work, but she loved it, i guess that is all that matters!

Here are pics of my TRUFFLE TINS!

I have a pretty large assortment of tins with windows in the top.  The window really makes the gift because the truffles are so pretty to look at in there!  There are two sizes, the large tins hold 21 cake truffles with seven different flavors and small tins hold 10 cake truffles with five different flavors.  I can't get any more tins from my current source and I have been searching the internet for another place to order them, with no luck so far.  But, for now, I have lots of them in many different designs....just trying to plan ahead!

It's too late to turn back now!

Jean Marie's Cakery is official now!  I have bought my website name and am going to make a real attempt to keep up with this blog about all of my cake truffle adventures. I have other things in mind to add to the cake truffles and cake pops that I make, more about that later!
I am really enjoying trying out new cake recipes and tweaking them until they can be turned into perfect cake truffle flavors. That is probably my favorite part of this experience, next to decorating them when they are done.
It is so satisfying to put them in a box or tin, when they are decorated in different ways, nestled in there all cute in their cupcake papers......

I LOVE IT!

Cake Truffles are a really great gift idea for friends and family or even corporate gifts for your clients. They are beautiful on trays or wrapped individually as party favors.  Your wedding and party guests will be in awe when they see these....then amazed when they find out how unbelievably delicious they are!

If you would like to contact me about special orders, my email for now is caketruffles@live.com!
